Etherscan, a block explorer for the Ethereum blockchain, has made a new change in its interface, hiding by default zero-value token transfers.

In a Twitter thread, Etherscan’s representatives said the change was made to fight the so-called “address poisoning,” which has phished and spammed unsuspecting users. Etherscan says users can still see these transfers by disabling the option on the Site Settings page.

Address poisoning has become quite a popular phishing technique in 2023 as bad actors seek new methods to scam crypto investors. The attack is basically existing due to users’ carelessness as scammers trick users with fake transactions made from addresses, which look similar to their own. The idea is that the victim will use the address from recent transactions — including the one sent by a scammer — to send crypto thinking the copied address is a legitimate one.
