Polygon, a sidechain solution for Ethereum, has rolled out a public testnet for zkEVM, a virtual machine that executes smart contracts in a way that is compatible with zero-knowledge-proof computation.

Polygon noted in a blog post that the testnet is limited throughput capacity, hence, the product is not in its final form as an optimized scaling machine. The firm behind the network said:

“We’re moving to testnet now so that we can show the Ethereum community what we’ve already built, and so that we can debug, stabilize, and prepare for audits en route to mainnet.”

Number of dApps in Polygon Network Exceeds 19,000

Uniswap and Aave have both already joined the testnet and are expected to launch their solutions soon. A mainnet launch is expected in early 2023.

With zkEVM, Polygon wants to solve Ethereum’s scalability through mass transfer processing rolled into a single transaction. The “zero-knowledge proof” (ZK) technology is used to present and publicly record the validity and correctness of the rolled transfers processed on the Ethereum blockchain.
