US cryptocurrency exchange Coinbase has received a license from the CFTC that will allow it to offer select US customers access to cryptocurrency futures trading.
The permit for the Coinbase Financial Markets subsidiary has been issued by the National Futures Association (NFA).
Greg Tusar, Coinbase’s vice president of institutional products, has said the approval is an “important milestone” for the company. According to him, the cryptocurrency derivatives market accounts for 75% of digital asset turnover.
He has explained:
“The ability to trade using margin gives customers leverage and access to the crypto market with less upfront investment than traditional spot trading. Being able to express long and short positions, investors also use derivatives to manage risk on their underlying crypto assets.”
